Callum is a genuine 10/15 with a high level skill-set and advanced understanding of the game. Callum has a great boot on him and he has the ability to control games and keep his team on the front foot by utilising this weapon. His running game and ability to break the line, put opposition defences under pressure, and create opportunities for others, is a real strength of his. Callum believes his best strengths are his ability to attack the line and utilise his kicking game to control the filed and tempo of a game. After excelling for the last 3 years at club level, Callum made his debut in the 2024 NPC vs Auckland and went on to achieve 10 caps that year. He kicked the winning goal in extra time to claim the NPC title for Wellington. He is well known for his cool temperament and ability to deliver when the game is on the line. He showcased this in both the NPC Final and also the Club Final where he again stepped up and delivered a match winning moment. Callum holds an Irish Passport and has previously spent time at Ulster in his early playing days. He is currently with the Hurricanes and will train with them for the Pre Season leading into the 2025 Super Rugby Competition. Callum is a top young man, who works hard and is eager to pursue his future off shore and develop into the player he knows he can be. For any team needing a talented 10/15 and goal kicker -Callum should be top of their list.
As voted in the Wellington Club Rugby awards 2024; “At Club Rugby our view on the term ‘Most Valuable Player’ is this; if you took one player out of their side, what would they look like without them? For us, that’s OBU Callum Harkin. Without him, there’s no way OBU wins 15 of 17 games this season and aren’t Jubilee Cup champions once again such is his talent and influence on the side. At his best in the close games, you have to wonder if he even feels pressure at all on the field, and his performance in the decider was one of the best we’ve seen.”
